Celebrity Speaker Tyler Perry began writing plays as a therapeutic response to his abusive childhood, and moved to Atlanta to bring his plays to the stage. After struggling initially, Perry found an audience for his work and began touring his plays around the country. In 2000, his play I Can Do Bad All By Myself  introduced audiences to the character Madea, the star of many of his later films. In 2005, Tyler Perry made his big screen debut with Diary of a Mad Black Woman, in which he wrote, produced, and played three different characters, including Madea.

Tyler Perry continues to use his movies and plays as a platform to express his views on the value of a strong moral family, and the ability to overcome difficulties in one’s life. Perry has found a loyal audience for his real-life portrayals of issues that people struggle with every day. “House of Payne”, the 2007 TBS sitcom, and “Meet the Browns” the 2009 series, launched Tyler Perry onto the small screen. Tyler Perry’s loyal fan base and continued hits compelled Forbes magazine to name him 2011’s highest paid man in entertainment.  His latest success comes from 2015’s Madea’s Tough Love and his appearance in the 2014 film Gone Girl alongside Ben Affleck.
