Sports Speaker Tim Duncan originally from the Virgin Islands, is an NBA player for the San Antonio Spurs. He is a 5 time NBA champion, 2 time NBA MVP, 3 time NBA Finals MVP, NBA Rookie of the Year and was named the team captain. Tim is a 15 time All-Star and is the only NBA player in history to be selected to All-NBA and All-Defensive Teams during each of his first 13 seasons.
Tim began his athletic career as a swimmer, and only took up basketball because the only pool in Saint Croix was destroyed after Hurricane Hugo destroyed the pool. He took his talents to high school and then on to college where he played for Wake Forest University. After graduating, he went on to the NBA as the number 1 pick. He led the Spurs to NBA championships in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. After the 2014 championship win, Tim joined John Salley as the only players to win a championship in three different decades.
Tim Duncan is not only known for his on the court talents but also for his quiet and positive demeanor and his active work with charities. He created his own foundation, The Tim Duncan Foundation, which raises awareness of youth health related issues and the importance of education around the US. The foundation has donated $25,000 to purchase and install the first wooden basketball court in his hometown on the island of St. Croix. Tim is sponsored by Sprite, Adidas, GUNN and H-E-B.
