Celebrity Speaker Spike Lee had the first student film to be showcased in Lincoln Center’s New Directors New Film Festival and his first feature film was She’s Gotta Have It with a budget of $175,000. When the film was released in 1986, it had grossed over $7,000,000 at the U.S. box office. After a very successful movie, marketing executives from Nike offered Spike a job to direct its commercials for the Air Jordan line. Other commercials that he has directed include Converse, Jaguar, Taco Bell and Ben & Jerry’s though his production company, 40 Acres and a Mule. Most recently, it was announced that Spike will direct and write the single-player campaign for the video game NBA 2K16.
His films have been nominated for Academy Awards, Student Academy Awards and American Black Film Festival awards. He also received the 2013 Gish Prize “for his brilliance and unwavering courage in using film to challenge conventional thinking.” Spike Lee has appeared in most of his films from cameos to leading roles and a number of actors have appeared multiple times in Spike’s productions including, Rosario Dawson, Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, Kerry Washington and Wesley Snipes. Spike Lee is available for speaking engagements, endorsements and personal appearances.
