American physician, author, activist and Health & Wellness Speaker Patch Adams is a man of many talents who has dedicated his life to bringing joy to those who need it most. His life story was made famous by the 1998 film titled Patch Adams starring Robin Williams. After earning his medical degree, Patch set out to create a different kind of healthcare experience centered around the integration of medicine and performance arts. He created his own free hospital eco-community, Gesundheit! Institute, in 1971. Since its inception, his organization has become a working environment for alternative healthcare that isn’t marred by insurance policies or high medical costs.
The movie about his life introduced the world to his plight to help others through humor. Patch has since become a popular Keynote Speaker for health & wellness conferences, medical school speaker series and other events to help offset the financial costs of providing free care to patients. He has made personal appearances in over 70 countries to date. One of the Gesundheit! Institute’s biggest initiatives is the annual clown trips in which he travels to hospitals, orphanages, and natural disaster sites in different countries with a group of volunteers. Health & Wellness Speaker Patch Adams and his group of volunteers don their colorful clothing and bring with them and full bag of tricks to help increase the physical and emotional health of others through humor and positive interaction.
In 2012, Health & Wellness Speaker Patch Adams provided a riveting keynote speech during a TEDx conference held at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He has also published a book titled Gesundheit! which gave readers a better understanding of his views on healthcare.
