    FACTS
    • Former Member of the US House of Representatives
    • First Republican Woman in the Minnesota State Congress

Michele Bachmann was born in Waterloo, Iowa and moved from Iowa to Minnesota when she was 13 years old. After graduating high school, she spent time in 1974 working on a kibbutz in Israel. After this experience, she enrolled at Winona State University and graduated in 1978 with a B.A.  Next Michele Bachmann moved to the O.W. Coburn School of Law, at the time a part of Oral Roberts University, and graduated in 1986 with J.D. She then received a master’s degree in taxation (LL.M) from the William & Mary School of Law in 1988. Upon graduation, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service from 1988 to 1993, eventually leaving to become a full-time mother after giving birth to her fourth child.

In 2000, Bachmann was able to defeat 18-year incumbent Gary Laidig for the Republican nomination for State Senator for Minnesota District 56 and emerged victorious in the general election. She was able to win re-election after re-districting in 2002. Bachmann’s agenda mostly focused on culturally conservative positions on abortion and gay marriage. In November 2006, Michele Bachmann became the first Republican woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She has become an advocate for increased oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and has expressed skepticism that global warming is a legitimate scientific phenomenon and is an outspoken criticism of cap-and-trade systems. She has also become a key figure in the Tea Party movement and is seen at the forefront of the movement’s leadership and public relations. Michele decided to run for the Republican Presidential nomination in June of 2011, but ultimately dropped out of the race six months later. She chose not to seek reelection for a congressional seat in 2014, but remains active with politics. Michele is available for speaking engagements, endorsements, and personal appearances.
