Olympic speaker Michael Phelps’ career launched after he won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, becoming the most successful athletes. Combining those medals with the Athens 2004 Olympic six gold and two bronze medals makes him one of the most unique keynote speakers and motivational speakers of the decade.

In doing so, the Olympic athlete has twice equaled the record of eight medals of any type at a single Olympics- achieved by Soviet gymnast Alexander Dityatin in the 1980 Moscow Summer Games. His winning five golds in individual events tied the single Games record set by Eric Heiden in 1980 and equaled by Vitaly Scherbo at the 1992 Summer Games.

Surpassing American swimmer Mark Spitz’s seven-gold performance at Munich in 1972, Phelps now holds the record for the most gold medals won in a single Olympics. He is second to the eighteen year old Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina, who won over three Olympics and nine Olympic gold medals.

His most memorable moment in the Games was after day seven. This day, he won the 200 meter individual medley and swam a semifinal qualifier for the 100 meter butterfly. The next day, his
exhaustion showed in the 100 meter butterfly, lagging behind Milorad Cavic, with Michael’s goggles having a ‘wardrobe malfunction,’ Michael looked like he was going to be beaten. Michael touched the wall with a hundredth of a second left to spare.

Reviewing after reviewing, it showed that Cavic had beaten Michael on the final stroke, but Cavic glided to the wall while Michael made a frantic kick and lunge into the wall. It was the only race that Michael did not set a new World Record. This gold medal in the 100 butterfly made it seven. Michael needed one more to surpass Mark Spitz in the medal count.

This led to the third leg of the medley relay. The following day, as Michael dove into the pool, the U.S. relay team was in third place, when Michael finished, they were in first. Lezak, the anchor leg, finished almost a second ahead of Australia.

This was his eighth gold and seventh-world record time. After all was said and done, Michael had swam seventeen races in nine days.

Michael Phelps has won international titles and earned himself the World Swimmer of the Year Award six times and American Swimmer of the Year Award eight times. In major international competition, Michael has won fifty-nine medals- fifty gold, seven silver, and two bronze. After his amazing performance at the 2008 Olympics, Sports Illustrated magazine’s Sportsman of the Year award.

After the Olympic Games, Michael started the Michael Phelps Foundation, promoting healthier lifestyles and the sport of swimming. Michael is also part of the US Anti-Doping Agency’s Project Believe program, and he is tested rigorously to ensure his system is free of performance-enhancing drugs.

His deals with major brand corporate names have included Speedo, Visa, Subway, Wheaties and Louis Vuitton. More recently, Phelps has inked sponsorship deals with Under Armour, Omega, Master Spas, Sol Republic, 800razors.com, and Aqua Sphere.

Michael Phelps, speaker, is available for fundraisers, endorsement deals / sponsorship deals and speaking engagements.
