Music artist, actor, producer, and celebrity speaker George Strait has become a legend in the world of country music since the beginning of his career over thirty years ago. George found his country music sound as a teenager growing up in Texas with such musical influencers as Hank Williams, Frank Sinatra, Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Lefty Frizzel. While serving in the United States Army, Strait joined the US Army band called Rambling Country who played together while stationed in Hawaii. Since then, George has gone on to release over thirty five albums, with thirteen of them multi-platinum and thirty three platinum. Some of his first number one albums to be certified platinum or multi-platinum include Strait From the Heart, Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, Beyond the Blue Neon, and Ocean Front Property. His most popular albums include Pure Country which sold six million copies and Strait Out of the Box, which sold two million copies.
George Strait has been recognized many times over for his revolutionary success over the years. As the record holder for most number one albums, gold albums, platinum, and multi-platinum albums in the history of country music, Strait has received many awards and accolades. In 2009 he won his first Grammy for his album Troubadour, was named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music, and was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Most recently, George Strait was named Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music Association at the 2013 CMA Awards. This was the third time he has won this award.
As an actor, George Straight has appeared in films including The Soldier, Pure Country, Grand Champion, and Pure Country 2: The Gift in 2011. He has also appeared as a guest on numerous television programs including CBS This Morning, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, New Country, and Cover Story.
