Olympic freestyle skier and motivational speaker for hire David Wise is an American sports hero of Golden proportions. In 2014, the Winter Olympic Games introduced the halfpipe skiing competition for the first time in history. David is the best halfpipe skier in the world and wasted no time winning Gold at the 2014 Sochi Games. In February of 2018, David returned to the Olympics and defended his title to earn back-to-back Gold Medals in dramatic fashion. His ski bindings broke on his first two runs, leaving one final run to make the medal stand. David rose to the challenge, and threw down an incredible run to take the top spot in the competition.
As it stands, he is the only man ever to win an Olympic ski halfpipe Gold Medal. A true family man, David brought his son on to the Olympic medal stand in 2018 for a heartwarming moment during the medal ceremony that we will never forget. Following the competition, he put the big win in perspective for NBC. He said, “It’s more important to me to be the best husband and father I can be than to win any title or championship.”
That’s just who David is. He’s more than an iconic athlete. He’s an incredibly humble, down-to-earth guy. David takes the most pride in his family and inspiring others to be the best version of themselves every day. David is also a Christian who leads a youth group at his church in Reno, Nevada with wife Alexandra.
His rise to the top has not been without hardships along the way. David got a call from his sister in 2015 to find out that his sister Christy had been in a bad paddleboarding accident with a boat. She lived, but lost her leg in the accident. David’s two sisters eventually started a non-profit foundation called One Leg Up On Life Foundation which provides prosthetic limbs to those who can’t afford them.
This scary moment gave David a newfound outlook on life and put his own abilities in perspective. His message since has been to enjoy the blessings you have because there’s someone out there who has it worse. After winning his latest Olympic Gold Medal, David pledged to donate 10% of his competition/sponsorship earnings to the foundation.
Outside of his Olympic Golds, David won 3 straight Gold Medals in the Winter X Games SuperPipe competition from 2012-2014. He returned to the X Games in 2018 to win his 4th Gold in men’s SuperPipe. David has also added a 2013 World Championship Gold Medal in Halfpipe to his trophy case.
