Sports Speaker David Stern was the 4th Commissioner of the NBA and served in that role for 30 years (1984-2014). Stern got his start with the NBA in 1978 as a General Counsel and had worked his way up to Executive Vice President before succeeding Larry O’Brien as Commissioner of the league in 1984.
