Broadcast billionaire and business speaker Charles Dolan got a fortune of $100 million this year alone. With Cablevision’s stock down 30% since the last Forbes 400 list (due to the June spin off of Rainbow Media); his Madison Square Garden sports entertainment conglomerate is up 15%. Rainbow Media; which is now known as AMC Networks has a market cap of $2.6 billion, with Charles Dolan owning 20% of its shares.
The most known show on AMC’s Network, is Mad Men, which became the year’s most Emmy-nominated TV series in July. The Dolan family’s MSG, the 2010-2011 season of the company’s New York Knicks franchise was the first to sell out of season tickets since 2001-2002.
When Charles Dolan was just starting off, he worked on editing sports reels and sent them to TV stations. In 1965, Charles Dolan created what would be known as HBO and traded it to Time Inc for the Long Island cable company that became Cablevision.
