Byron Scott is part of the late 20th Century’s set of basketball lifer’s.  As a successful player, coach, and philanthropist; Scott is considered as one of the most respected members of the basketball community.  After growing up in Inglewood, CA Scott has been impactful across the United States including stops in Los Angeles, New Jersey, New Orleans and Cleveland.

Sports Speaker Byron Scott began his career in the NBA in 1983 after being selected 4th overall out of Arizona State.  Scott went on to have a very successful NBA career that lasted 14 seasons and included 11 with the Los Angeles Lakers.  As a member of the Lakers, Scott won 3 NBA Championships alongside all-time great players like Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy.  After deciding to throw in the proverbial towel in 1998 Byron decided to continue with a career in coaching.  By 2000, Byron was named the coach of the New Jersey Nets and went on to lead the team to two consecutive NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003.  Since then, Scott has spent time coaching teams with serious setbacks including the New Orleans Hornets after Hurricane Katrina and the Cleveland Cavaliers post-LeBron James.  In July 2014, Scott was named the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in an attempt to lead his former team back to prominence.

Apart from his career on the sidelines, Scott has placed a very strong emphasis on assisting the community since the end of his playing days.  His foundation, The Byron Scott Children’s Fund has raised over $15 million in funding for a variety of children’s charities.  In addition, Scott has also spent time as a Laker’s analyst for Time Warner Cable and an NBA studio analyst for ABC and ESPN’s telecasts.
