Celebrity chef speaker Alice Waters is not only a chef, but also an author and the owner of Chez Panisse. Celebrity Chef Alice Waters has such a commitment to education; she created The Edible Schoolyard at Berkeley’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Middle School. This one-acre garden includes a kitchen-classroom, and an “eco-gastronomic” curriculum. The school gets thousands of students involved in all the aspects of the food cycle, and helps people understand the value in humane and sustainable food. The program is nationally recognized for its efforts in incorporating gardening, and cooking into the core academic curriculum. Alice works to help people understand the importance of food traditions to teach, nurture and give power to young people.  The success of The Edible Schoolyard led to the School Lunch Initiative, which helps to integrate a nutritious lunch and gardening experience into the academic curriculum of all public schools in the United States.

As the Vice President of Slow Food International; Alice Waters helps promote local artisanal food traditions and has 100,000 members in over 130 countries.
