Evan Williams is the current CEO of Medium.com and has founded numerous Internet companies including Blogger, weblog-authoring software of Pyra Labs, and Twitter, where he was previously the CEO. Evan and Meg Hourihan co-founded Pyra Labs in order to make project management software. Out of Pyra Labs spun Blogger, which was one of the first web applications for creating and managing weblogs. As the inventor of the term blogger, he was influential in making the term blog very popular. With the leaving of Hourihan and other employees, Pyra was acquired by Google in 2003.

That same year, Evan Williams was named to the MIT Technology Review TR100 as a top 100 innovators in the world under 35 years old. PC Magazine’s People of the Year listed Evan along side Hourihan and Paul Bausch for the work done on Blogger.

Next on Evan’s list was a podcasting company called Odeo. Two years later in 2006, he partnered with Biz Stone and other Odeo employees and founded Obvious Corp. In April 2007, Odeo was acquired by Sonic Mountain. On the project list for Obvious Corp. was Twitter, and the group spun it into a new company with Evan Williams as the co-founder, board member and investor. In 2008, Evan became the CEO of Twitter, as Jack Dorsey became the chairman of the board. He served as CEO of Twitter for a little more than 3 years until he decided to pursue other ventures.
