David Freese emerged as a potential starter when Cardinals starting third baseman Troy Glaus was put on the disable list in 2009. Opening Day 2009, David made his Major League debut and hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Expected to be the starting third basemen, he was passed over by Brian Barden and Joe Thurston.

He started in 2011 and has credited his improvement in his hitting to Mark McGwire. As the St. Louis Cardinals made it to Game 7 of the World Series, David Freese hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first and the Cardinals went on to win the game and the World Series. David was named World Series MVP and became the sixth player to win the LCS and World Series MVP award in the same year. In 2012, David won the All-Star Final vote joining the MLB All-Star roster.

The beginning of the 2013 season the Cardinals agreed to a one-year contract, unfortunately David suffered a back injury in Spring Training and struggled at the plate the first couple of weeks. Through hard work and determination David was able to turn that around when he began a twenty-game hitting streak, the longest of any MLB player to that point in the season. The Cardinals promoted Kolton Wong to play second base, intending for Matt Carpenter to play third base, reducing David’s playing time. Since the Cardinals one-year contract was up, David was traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on November 22, 2014 and played with the Angels through the 2015 season. Upon the conclusion of the 2015 MLB season, the Angels decided to not re-sign Freese making him a free agent. On March 11, 2016, Freese signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates to play third base for them. David Freese is available for speaking engagements, sporting events, and sports clinics.
