Sports Motivational Speaker Julie Foudy is a legendary women’s soccer player who now works as the primary color commentator for women’s soccer events for ESPN’s family of networks. Julie played for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team from 1987-2004. During that time, she helped lead the U.S. to 2 FIFA World Cup titles (1991, 1999), 2 Olympic Gold Medals (1996, 2004), and 1 Olympic Silver Medal (2000) among other feats. Julie is women’s sports royalty with a heart of gold, and that’s why many organizations have sought to hire Julie Foudy for leadership events, women’s conferences, sports banquets and more.
Julie has always been a leader. She served as the USWNT co-captain from 1991-2000 before accepting the role as sole captain from 2000-2004. She played with fellow soccer stars Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain who also have become popular sports motivational speakers. Julie was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2007. She also played professionally in Sweden as well as for the San Diego Spirit of the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). When the association was put on hold in 2003, the players chose Julie Foudy to represent them in talks to resurrect the league.
Since retiring from competition, Julie has served as the President of the Women’s Sports Foundation and produced a documentary for ESPN on the 1999 USWNT titled The 99ers. She is also a featured reporter on ESPN’s investigative story series, Outside the Lines. Together with her husband, Julie created The Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy for girls age 12-18.
